Chasing Shadows

my visions of a life as I live it. simple, subtle and nonsensical...

one year on… and a lifetime away

Last week marked exactly one year ago that I boarded a plane to Glasgow with nothing but the promise of a new perspective before me. It’s funny how something as simple as a date on the calendar can set you off along this road of interspection and make you take stock of where the last 365 days have taken you.

This time last year I was settling into a life in Scotland, sharing a world across two flats with a group of strangers. People who made the experience what it was. Many of whom I am lucky to now count as life long friends.

From there the world opened up. Eventually I left Scotland for my first backpacking trip across Europe. But definitely not my last. I camped the Swiss alps, strolled the banks of the Danube and took a detour through Slovakia. While I have long since left Europe, I have never left it behind.

Still so much can change in one year. When I arrived in Scotland I was a student, a stranger, a brother. Since I left I’ve become a graduate, a friend, an uncle. With a lifetime yet to live, each year will bring something new.

So as I continue to move one year on, I remain a lifetime away from being finished. I can’t wait. Whatever happens next, I’m ready. World, universe, bring it on.
